PHARMACY INTERN - PER DIEM
Fremont Hospital
Fremont, CA

As a per diem, nonexempt CPS Pharmacy Intern at Fremont Hospital, you will work under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist to perform a variety of pharmacy duties to become proficient. This includes general pharmacy practices, procedures and etiquette. Also performs general drug inventory and delivery services, as directed.

Schedule: This per diem, nonexempt position will provide day shift coverage a minimum of 4 hours/month and/or as needed on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.

About the Facility: Fremont Hospital is a private, modern 148-bed behavioral healthcare facility that provides services to adolescents (ages 12-17) and adults. Services offered include treatment of psychiatric conditions, chemical dependency and treatment of 'dual diagnosis' (co-existing psychiatric condition and chemical dependency). A variety of treatment programs are available, including inpatient care, partial hospitalization (day treatment) and an intensive outpatient program. CPS has partnered with the hospital to manage the day-to-day operations of this pharmacy. This position is an employee of CPS.

About the Pharmacy: Pharmacy hours are Monday-Friday from 7:00am - 3:30pm and Saturday, Sunday, and holidays from 7:00am-1:30pm. The pharmacy is supported by Pyxis automation.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS or BA undergraduate degree
  • Current California Pharmacy Intern license in good standing
  • Must be actively enrolled in an ACPE-accredited PharmD program, 1st or 2nd year
  • Pyxis automation experience a plus but not required
  • Proficient computer skills including experience using Microsoft Office
  • Effective communications skills; verbal and written

Job Responsibilities:

  • Medication delivery
  • Drug Information Literature searches/reviews and monographs
  • Data gathering from electronic medical records, interpreting laboratory values, and ensuring drug regimens are consistent with guidelines and protocols
  • Unit Inspections
  • Performance improvement projects
  • Patient education such as medication history interviews, first dose teaching, food-drug interaction counseling, discharge counseling, and assessment of education and adherence
  • Triaging phone calls
  • Repackaging and labeling medications
  • Inventory management
  • Participates in workgroups and committees as required
  • Participate in a variety of educational experiences, including but not limited to clinical pearl presentations, patient case presentations, and journal clubs

Hospital Requirements:

  • (PPD) TB Skin Test - Proof of negative TB skin test within the last 12 months
