First Merchants Bank is seeking a Benefits Specialist to join our Human Resources team in one of several locations! This full time position will focus on being a knowledgeable team member and will lead the delivery, management and compliance of our benefit programs and ensure regulatory requirements are identified and achieved. We will also look to you to provide responses, be a resource and support the benefits experience for our employees!

As part of this role you will be a key contributor in the following areas:

  • COMMUNICATION: Participating in and implementing the development of the communication strategy for welfare benefit changes, open enrollments, COBRA and HIPAA. Managing the system administration and communication of benefit programs. Analyzing and reporting benefit plan data to senior management.

  • PLAN DEVELOPMENT AND MAINTANENCE: Assisting with researching, reviewing, and evaluating benefit plans and programs. Coordinating the administration and promotion of employee wellness program. Managing benefit plan payroll deductions and adjustments. Planning and coordinating new employee benefit orientation.

  • COMPLIANCE: Managing all compliance and conducting audits and compliance reviews of benefits packages.

  • AUDIT: Analyzing and auditing benefit data and helping prepare audit documents for benefit plan external audits. Serving as a primary contact for auditor questions, documentation, and information.

  • VENDORS: Developing and maintaining a positive working relationship with benefit vendors. Review incoming benefit vendor invoices and prepare vouchers for approval.

  • EMPLOYEE SUPPORT: Assisting with retirement plan administration, providing administrative support for the Employee Stock Purchase Plan and administering workers compensation claims.

To be successful in this position, we require the following:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of Employee Benefits Administration, Human Resources OR Related Experience.

The following would be a plus:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field.
  • Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) designation.
  • Welfare benefits administration experience.
