PURPOSE

The Senior Reviewer performs technical content review work on projects for Horizon Scanning. This includes performing editing and quality control functions by reviewing work of horizon scanning research analysts. The Senior Reviewer ensures that all horizon scanning content (e.g., database content, topic and trend reports, project deliverables) is produced to the highest standards of quality and fully meets project and/or client specifications. The Senior Reviewer works with the director, senior manager of science, other senior reviewers, lead analyst, medical copy editor(s), and others to develop content guidelines, templates, and protocols. The Senior Reviewer provides feedback and training to new analysts regarding content development. The Senior Reviewer is expected to maintain knowledge of new developments in horizon scanning methods, key clinical priority areas, study design, and important new scientific discoveries in understanding fundamental aspects of disease states. The Senior Reviewer attends all horizon scanning team meetings and participates as a voting member at topic and trends nomination meetings. As time allows, the Senior Reviewer participates in leads review, topic and trend identification and nomination, database content creation, topic and trend profile development, and report writing.

Essential Functions Statements

  • Critically review and edit horizon scanning content including database records, topic and trend profiles, and deliverable reports developed by horizon scanning research analysts
  • Review and edit pre-nomination topic records created by research analysts; provide feedback to analysts and develop initial assessment of how well the topic meets criteria for entry into the horizon scanning system
  • Review and edit topic and trend profiles developed by horizon scanning research analysts; provide feedback on accuracy, quality, and clarity to analysts
  • Provide feedback to research analysts about the accuracy and clarity of their work
  • Provide training to analysts regarding content development protocols and quality standards
  • Maintain thorough understanding of the key clinical research developments and major scientific trends in the client-defined priority areas
  • Apply understanding about U.S. regulatory processes, coverage, coding, payment, etc. to horizon scanning content review, editing, and feedback to analysts
  • Apply medical and scientific knowledge to review of horizon scanning content and be thorough and attentive to detail to ensure high-quality project deliverables
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings as required
  • Provide input and feedback to HS director and/or senior manager of science about workflow and protocol issues
  • Attend (in-person) semi-annual High Potential Disrupt Report decision meetings
  • As time allows, review leads, create topic records, write topic and trend profiles and other reports
  • Meet assigned deadlines

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Experience

  • 5 or more years of recent experience reviewing and/or editing healthcare content
  • Broad and comprehensive knowledge of common disease etiologies, processes, and treatments
  • Solid understanding of disease states and treatments for two or more of the following clinical areas: Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, mental and behavioral health conditions, or rare diseases
  • Solid understanding of pharmacology and other treatment modalities (e.g., biologics, cell and gene therapies, devices, surgical procedures)
  • Knowledge of U.S. healthcare system, evidence-based medicine, and healthcare horizon scanning
  • Must possess detail-oriented medical content editing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to distill highly technical information into content accessible to wide audience
  • Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment
  • Must be a well-organized self-starter and proficient multi-tasker
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) essential
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint helpful

Education

  • Required: Advanced degree in a scientific or medical discipline, such as physiology, pharmacology, molecular genetics, neuroscience, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, or clinical healthcare professional with advanced degree.
  • Preferred: PhD*
