Position Summary

The primary role that the Electrical Engineer serves is to design, analyze, develop, and test complex electrical systems via the application of electrical engineering knowledge, best practices, techniques, and tools. Electrical engineers evaluate electrical systems, products, components, and applications by designing and conducting research programs; by applying knowledge of customer's requirements, principles of electricity/electronics/electromagnetism, and data of common electrical materials and components. The Electrical Engineer may also perform risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety standards and electrical engineering codes.

Duties & Responsibilities

Core Duties

  • Work with Project Engineer to define electrical and power related products, tasks, scope, and budget
  • Work with Project Engineer to deliver electrical and power related products and tasks within the defined scope and budget
  • Works closely with project and systems engineers to manage requirement and electrical scope changes
  • Works with the project and systems engineers to confirm an understanding of, and compliance to, requirements and standards and plan and execute work in a systematic method
  • Collaborates with other engineering disciplines (e.g. Project, Mechanical, Systems, Controls) to develop and design solutions
  • Participate in initial equipment conceptual development and carefully balance customer and product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
  • Participates in a phased development and integration process that reduces rework:
    • Theory, key trades and part selction, architecture diagram, single lines, I/O lists, schedules, schematics, wire lists and diagrams, field wiring
  • Collaborates closely with Controls Engineering to best plan and produce electrical design documents
  • Performs system-level design calculations and analysis for part selection, AC and DC systems (e.g. sensors, motors, wire sizing, fusing/circuit protection, grounding, Arc Flash Hazard, SCCR, Heat Loads, EMI/EMC)
  • Support the development of top level system architecture block diagrams
  • Works closely with SR&M to define electrical and power hazards and failure modes and mitigations
  • Evaluate and design facility impacts and interfaces (e.g. system interface/connection points, conduit/cable schedules, equipment lists and locations, etc.)
  • Lay out new industrial electrical control panels which are NFPA79/NEC/UL508A compliant, and create electrical schematics
  • Manage electrical cabinet builds, field wiring, and installations
  • Contribute to factory and site test plans (procedures) and test plan execution
  • Reviews progress and evaluates results of work accomplished by self and others
  • Prepares reports and presents results to management and client
  • Testing of electrical systems - vehicle, wayside, facility
  • Troubleshooting and resolving wiring/design issues during factory and site testing

Ancillary Duties

  • Designs electrcial products in solidworks
  • Assist in standarizing and integrating electrcial related lists and data into one central data system to reduce rework and duplication
  • Contribute technical content to operational and maintenance manuals
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assist in sales efforts and expansion of customer base
  • Travel as required (up to 25%)

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position may have informal supervisory responsibilities

Reporting Relationship

  • This position reports to the Team Lead, Electrical Engineering of Oceaneering Entertainment Systems.
  • Primary project technical direction is provided by the Project Engineer with support from the Electrical Team Lead, Manager, and Chief Engineer as necessary; final technical direction lies with Chief Engineer
Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Minimum BS in Engineering required
  • Proficiency with common office productivity software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, etc

DESIRED

  • Advanced degree
  • Professional License and/or Industry Organization Memberships
  • Proficiency with advanced Computer Aided Design (CAD), Simulation, and Analysis software packages such as Altium Designer, SPICE, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, MathCAD, MATLAB, etc
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry professional, technical, and military standards (IEEE, ANSI, IEC, ISO, NEMA, NEC, MIL, etc.)
  • Experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design
  • Experience with brushless motor drives, robotics, and automation
  • Experience with low-medium voltage, single- and 3-phase power systems (120, 240, 480, 3000+ VAC)
  • Experience with DC power systems design
