Position Summary:

Responsible for monitoring and operations of SiriusXM uplink broadcast services and facilities. This includes verifying proper audio and data channel configuration and content for all music, talk and sports channels on all platforms as well as internal and external data services which are broadcast to SiriusXM receivers. Follow standard operating procedures, open incident tickets, and escalate as necessary for all issues. Work with various stakeholders to correcting or reestablish services to minimize subscriber issues. Responsible for creating, maintaining, and updating NOC processes and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operates the 24x7 SIRIUS XM Washington, DC satellite earth station including the satellite RF uplink, baseband multiplexors, encryption devices, and serial/IP based inputs
  • Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems and network connections of the Uplink Distribution System and associated equipment
  • Monitors the system to correct or escalate any security, usability or subscriber impacting issues
  • Monitor System health using preexisting management tools and respond to incidents as they arise
  • Interfaces with Enterprise Control Center Supervisors, Broadcast Operations Controllers, IP Network Operations Center, SXM Systems Engineering and Satellite controller staff
  • Acts as Tier 1/Tier 2 support staff to triage all system anomalies
  • Monitors the disaster recovery systems to ensure readiness
  • Perform regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
  • Performs incident management and reporting
  • Performs fault isolation and root cause analysis
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in electronics or equivalent related degree; military training or equivalent experience will be considered in lieu of degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: IP communications network operations; RF transmission system operations; Systems Administration, or a combination thereof
  • Experience in RF systems operations and anomaly resolution.
  • Familiarity with digital network signaling standards, routing, encoding, encryption, multiplexing, modulation and transmission
  • Strong knowledge of Linux environment and networking software, hardware, networking protocols and operational requirements and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with maintenance and replacement of rack mounted computer network equipment and servers.
  • Understanding of X, Ku, and L band RF systems.
  • Ability to read schematics, engineering diagrams, and other data flow diagrams.
  • Able to support a 24-hour/7-day facility; able to work holidays, weekends, and occasional overtime. This is a rotating shift work position.
  • And/or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.

Requirements and General Skills:

  • Understanding of TCP/IP, QOS, and serial telecommunications protocols.
  • Understanding of RHEL/CENTOS operating environment
  • Understanding of digital and analog modulation methods.
  • Understanding of relational database structures.
  • Good public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to pay attention to details and be organized.
  • Ability to project professionalism over the phone and in person.
  • Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.
  • Spelling, grammar, proofreading and editing skills.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus
  • Network + certification preferred.
  • A+ certification preferred.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lb.
  • This position requires the use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). As required by ITAR, to perform this position you must be a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e., 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Technical Skills:

  • Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and OSI model, Linux OS, Linux script development, and SQL a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of MS-Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
