Position Summary:

The Service Reliability Engineering team functions as embedded SREs responsible for the overall scalability, observability and resilience of the collection of services powering SiriusXM and Pandora. We work in partnership with a broad collection of cross-functional engineering teams to improve velocity, efficiency and provide the paved-path frameworks making it easy for service development teams to "do the right thing."

The Services Reliability Engineering team is a pillar of the Services Enablement Engineering organization. We are a high-impact team able to offer you opportunities to grow your skills across a wide array of technical problems. As a member of our SRE team, you will have a voice in shaping and building our next generation suite of services.

As a member of the team, you'll be paired with a mentor committed to helping you grow skills and further develop your career. With the guidance of your team, you'll move from project to project, helping other engineers ensure their system is scalable, reliable, monitored and the code is of the quality expected. You'll, also, work closely with cross-functional teams, across the enterprise, to ensure changes are continuously being built, tested, deployed and monitored.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide improved observability.
  • Expand monitoring for improved observation of mission critical services.
  • Build skills for managing microservices architectures.
  • Create tooling need to assist service teams in implementing recommended solutions.
  • Developer user interfaces.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • 2 years of relevant work experience in a Software Engineering role
  • Experience coding in Python, Java, JavaScript, Bash, or similar

Requirements and General Skills:

  • Interpersonal skills and ability to interact and work with staff at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to project professionalism over the phone and in person.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to "internal client" and customer service principles.
  • Willingness to take initiative and to follow through on projects.
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and work under shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must have legal right to work in the U.S.
  • Participation in on-call rotation

Technical Skills:

  • Comfortable with Linux
  • Familiarity with build tools, particularly Jenkins, Gradle, Git
  • Integration experience: you understand how to wire systems together via their APIs
  • Ability to effectively document processes, procedures and best practices, succinctly.
  • Experience with user interface design and web development.
  • Exposure to deploying systems with Nomad or Kubernetes.
  • Exposure to cloud based systems.
  • Interest in working with complex, 24x7 available distributed systems
  • Interest in design patterns for resilience and high availability (ie: rate limiting, circuit breaking, fallbacks, etc)
  • Runtime Infrastructure : Docker, Consul
  • Storage Systems : Redis, Postgres, BigTable
  • Messaging : Kafka
  • Java, Javascript, Python
