General Summary:

With oversight from Director, plans, directs, and evaluates the delivery of 24-hour Crisis Management Services to psychiatric patients in the Emergency Department. Functions as a Licensed Certified Social Worker - Clinical, LCSW-C, or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, LCPC, within the limits of the State Standards, hospital and Nursing Service policies and procedures. Provides direct crisis intervention to the neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations and their families. Serves as a psychiatric consultant and educator in the Emergency Department. Communicates with health care and community professionals to facilitate comprehensive patient care. Supports the philosophy, objectives, and goals of the hospital and Behavioral Health.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:

  1. Current Maryland Licensed Certified Social Worker (please attach picture proof to the application) - Clinical, LCSW-C, or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, LCPC. Master's Degree is the minimum required level. Will consider a licensed graduate social worker or licensed graduate professional counselor who is currently pursing full clinical licensure in Maryland (LCSW-C or LCPC).
  2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of social work or professional counseling. Adherence to the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics or National Board for Certified Counselors requirements as defined by the State of Maryland's licensure regulations for the respective profession.
  3. Three years clinical experience in the area of expertise required. One year of management experience preferred.
  4. CPR certification required.
  5. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skills in providing appropriate care/contact for patients in the following age groups: Check all that apply.

  1. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. Possess the ability to interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care/conduct needed as described in the Unit's/Department's policies and procedures.
  2. Clinical competency in area of practice.
  3. Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  4. Effective use of proper body mechanics when handling patients and equipment.
  5. Management skills required.
  6. Ability to handle difficult interpersonal situations and pace of caseload demands.
  7. Skills and abilities to perform all job description duties according to the age-specific patient population served by their department and described in the Department's Quality Improvement Plan.
  8. Ability to keep patient and employee information confidential.
  9. Ability to work as a team member with others in the organization.
