Good Time Management and Organization Education Required: 2 Year Technical Degree - A.A.S. degree or equivalent. Years Experience Required: Position 2: 3-7 Years of Experience DESIGN TECHNICIAN GENERAL OVERVIEW: Position is as a Mechanical CAD Design Technician within the Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) organization. Most products design opportunities consist of lifesaving and life extending devices which are implanted within the body (i.e. Pacemakers and Defibrillators). Additional products designed include implantable cardiac monitoring devices and external instruments which either deliver implantable products or perform other functions external to the human body. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate ease of manufacturing. Utilizes computer-aided design (CAD) and other Mechanical Design Tools. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and generates design content. Design content includes original rough layouts, sketches, detailed full drawings conforming to ASME Y14.5 standards and/or CAD files. Additionally generic content which facilitates high-level visual representations of the design will be created to support design proposals. This includes Microsoft PowerPoint presentations, animations of designs with assembly steps and other communication materials as needed for team review. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications. Design technician will also have opportunity to interact with internal and external vendors to determine design limitations and manufacturability inputs. Technician will interact with internal and external Additive Manufacturing groups to generate prototypes of designs. Position has the potential for hands-on assembly of prototypes including use of hand machine tools and some additional non-CNC machine tools (i.e. manually controlled Mill, Lathe, Drill Press, Band Saw, etc.) TECHNICIAN SUPPORT CAREER STREAM: Provides technical support in areas such as production, operations, maintenance, safety, testing, process improvement or product development. Uses schematics, diagrams, written and verbal descriptions or defined plans to perform testing and troubleshooting on mechanical components, equipment, or systems. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data using established formulae and procedures, and may perform some calculations. For higher levels, may suggest and/or make improvements to optimize work processes. DIFFERENTIATING FACTORS: 1. Autonomy: Entry level position typically requiring 3-5 years of prior experience in technical aspects of a job. Technician will work in conjunction with more experienced team members and as part of a larger project team. Work tasks will be defined and there are standard procedures to follow for execution. 2. Organizational Impact: Performs basic technical activities and records data . Delivers job responsibilities following a defined standard output or set of procedures. 3. Innovation and Complexity: Will generally be expected to provide design concepts and make contributions of small to medium levels of complexity. Will be asked to create design concepts and provide potential solutions to problems based upon 'napkin sketches' and other generally provided parameters. Will have responsibility for providing design solutions for mechanical tolerancing schema in designs but will work in partnership with engineers. Technical problems being worked on are typically of small to moderate complexity. On occasion problems of moderate to difficult complexity will exist but the technician will contribute as part of a team in this scenario. 4. Communication and Influence: Communicates with contacts typically within immediate job area. Obtains and provides technical information and can be required to explain or justify designs. Communication medium will be through Face-to-Face and remote means. Remote communication will consist of Email, Video Conference, Phone Calls, and other means as defined by program teams. 5. Leadership and Talent Management: N/A - Jobs at this level are focused on self-development. 6. Required Knowledge and Experience: A 2-year technical degree or equivalent is required for the position. Candidate must be able to demonstrate skillset in general mechanical design and CAD tools. 3-5 Years of experience is preferred. Specific CAD tools that will be used in the job include PTC Creo, Dassault SolidWorks, and Adobe Illustrator. Primary toolset is PTC Creo and any additional competency or experience with other listed design software systems are considered nice to have. The department utilizes Product Data Management (PDM) systems which are PTC Windchill and Dassault PDM Professional. The primary system is Windchill. Competency and experience in any PDM system (especially Windchill) is preferred but is not required. On the job training will be provided for this. The department utilizes Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems which are Dassault Enovia and Oracle Agile. Primary system is Enovia. Competency and experience in any PLM system (especially Enovia) is preferred but is not required. On the job training will be provided for this. Design content (CAD and Drawings) are produced to ASME Y14 standards. Competency or experience with ASME standards, including Y14.5 (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) is preferred but is not required. On the job training can be provided for this. Additional preferred skills include but are not limited to: * Machining and Manufacturing systems - hand tools (Power Drills, Dremel, Soldering, Epoxy, Adhesives, etc.) and other cutting/forming tools (Mills, Lathes, Bandsaws, Power Drills, Grinders, etc.) * Experience designing for Additive Manufacturing and using 3D printers * Experience creating tooling and fixturing * Experience working on small to medium (?10 member) groups and project teams
