Vice President, Associate General Counsel, Owner & Occupier Services

Job Description Summary

The successful candidate for this position will lead a dynamic and diverse global legal team with direct responsibility for providing legal support to Cushman & Wakefield's Global Owner & Occupier Services businesses. Leveraging an ability and willingness to work under time-sensitive deadlines and be productive in a fast-paced environment with multiple competing priorities, the Vice President, Associate General Counsel will oversee the teams in the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions, proactively support C&W's varied client base, and foster C&W Legal's collaborative culture and will operate as a working manager.

This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel, Global Operations. With 12+ years of legal experience, including experience from both private practice and in-house environments, the successful candidate will be a strategic thought leader who can manage the technical legal advice required to efficiently and effectively support the business across the globe as well as serve as a counselor and partner to key business stakeholders. Demonstrated experience supporting sophisticated businesses during periods of transformational change is critical, as is an ability to manage third party advisers and work collaboratively in teams acting across geographies and skill lines.

Job Description

  • Oversee the Owner & Occupier Services Legal Team which entails managing, training and developing a team of approximately 20 lawyers and paralegals located in the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions.
  • Oversee the analysis, drafting, negotiation, finalization and approval process for all agreements relating to the Owner & Occupier Services businesses, including the following service lines: Global Occupier Services, C&W Services, Portfolio Solutions Center, Asset Services, Facilities Services and Project & Development Services. Proven expertise in Real Estate Services and/or Outsourcing essential.
  • As a member of the Global Legal Operations Leadership Team, advise and counsel Service Line and Regional leadership.
  • Oversee litigation matters for the Owner & Occupier Services businesses, in coordination with the Deputy General Counsel, Global Operations and Labor & Employment Counsel.
  • Develop and implement processes and procedures, leveraging technology, to consistently analyze and mitigate complex contractual risk while increasing efficiency and consistency in contracting.
  • Advise and counsel internal clients with respect to the legal policies and the legal implications of proposed transactions; maintain open communication and good working relationships with both internal clients and clients of the Company.
  • Collaborate with the Associate General Counsel, M&A and provide direct legal support for M&A transactions.
  • Research, analyze and keep current on legal issues and laws, legislation, regulations and court decisions affecting the real estate industry and real estate service providers.
  • Create training and development opportunities for internal clients and the Legal Team.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

Requirements

  • J.D. from a leading law school required
  • Bar Admission in Good Standing Required
  • 10+ years of experience
  • 2+ years of management experience
  • Experience managing legal professionals in private practice and/or an in-house environment.
  • Proven ability to handle stressful situations, a diverse and high-volume workload and provide client service in a calm and professional manner.
  • Experience in real estate, real estate services and commercial contracting is preferred.
  • Proven expertise in Real Estate Services and/or Outsourcing
  • Demonstrated Customer/Client Focus
  • Experience managing diverse legal teams based in multiple locations
  • Demonstrated "executive presence" with deep experience advising and interacting with C-suite level executives and directors
  • Ability to be productive in stressful, time-sensitive situations and fast-paced environments
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Exceptional organizational, writing and communication skills
  • Collaborative & creative strategic problem solver
  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time. Travel may vary in frequency and duration.
