Ultra Low Refrigeration Technician

Location: Four Seasons Environmental, Inc. - Chamblee Campus, Georgia

Min. Yrs. Experience: 4 years of verifiable service experience servicing, troubleshooting and repairing ultra-low temp (-80C) refrigeration appliances.

Education: High School/GED/Trade School: Five years of Apprentice School or a Technical School Certification, or a combination of Journeyman-Level experience with proof of completion.

Pay: $31.78/hr. + $5.76/hr. fringe benefit

Job Description:

Required: Understanding of ULT function codes. Understanding of basic cascade and auto cascade operations including recover and charge of refrigerants on the high and low stages using compatible refrigerants. Also, must have excellent knowledge of systems using high pressure refrigerants that must be charged by static pressure or weight utilizing sweeping agents like pentane, propane and ethane.

Required: Diagnose refrigeration problems using thermocouples and the knowledge to charge with special blends which may include recovered refrigerant. Must also know what percentage of refrigerant to use on various applications and know what order refrigerants should be charged following a manufactures/industry standard determined sequence. Knowledge of refrigerant recovery, reclaim and recycle procedures according to applicable EPA laws

Required: Determine when and when not to tap into a refrigeration system when troubleshooting high and low stage condensers, also must understand diagnostic and troubleshooting of oil separator and oil management system. This also includes working with extremely high and dangerous pressures involving complicated piping.

Required: Introducing hydrocarbons into refrigerant charge using exotic blends and understanding their properties (temperature/pressure guide) this may also entail utilizing special recovery equipment and back flushing.

Applicant must have knowledge of OSHA and manufactures safety rules when working with high pressure refrigerants. Must understand evacuation theory and techniques and be proficient in working on Forma, Revco, So-Low Sanyo ULT freezers. Must have diagnostic and troubleshooting knowledge of elimination of electrical/control problems including faulty micro boards, relays, hot connections, intermittent electronic problems and troubleshooting for oil restrictions, refrigerant leak, evacuation procedures, triple evacuation procedure, voltage boost transformer, RTD temperature sensor and pressure equalization port heater.

Applicant must have at least 5 yrs. of verifiable experience in the service and repair of walk-in coolers and freezers with electric and hot gas defrost systems.

Must be employee and customer friendly and be able to assist other tradesmen in refrigeration repair and maintain email communication with the customer's representatives

Other duties per job classification is as follows:

The Heating Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic (Research Facility) installs, modifies and repairs refrigeration - hermetic, semi hermetic, mechanical, screw, scroll and centrifugal units to 1100 tons; air conditioning, ventilation, computer rooms; process coolers; ice machines; evaporative cooling; air compressing and related control systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems equipment. The Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Mechanic (Research Facility) installs new or repaired component and performs complex modifications of systems and components in accordance with applicable HVAC/Electrical publications and directives, and will maintain and repair specialized laboratory equipment such as cascade refrigeration systems. This mechanic may perform complex repair of systems component such as compressors, condensers, heat pump regulators, fluid and refrigerant gas lines valves, meters, gauges, thermostats, pumps, mechanical linkage, and electrical sensing, switching and controlling devices including pneumatic controls, variable speed drives, digital controlled devices, electronic, hydraulic heating and cooling and economizer systems. Other duties will be required.

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge Required by Position:

Ability to climb and work at heights, walking and standing for extended periods of time, lifting, bending, pushing and moving objects up to 75 pounds. Interpret and work from plans, diagrams, blueprints, shop drawings, sketches and specifications. Operate specialized machinery, equipment and tools utilized in the repair and maintenance of heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration.
