You are energetic and collaborative ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of Compass's business and work with employees and agents across the company. Your contributions will be impactful, value driven, and you will play an instrumental role on the Compass Legal Team. At Compass You Will: Provide business-focused legal advice and support to internal and external partners in connection with various real estate ventures across the organization including, but not limited to, title, escrow, mortgage, and other service lines complementary to our robust brokerage business. Assist with business expansion efforts, including ancillary business line licensing (including title, escrow, and mortgage licensing) and engage in cross-functional collaboration to ensure that our products, services, marketing, and processes, comply with law. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents and strategic agreements (e.g. contracts, term sheets, program guidelines) that support and enable our business operations under tight deadlines. Assist various business teams on risk assessment and management, taking into account Compass policies and procedures and business strategy. Collaborate externally with regulators and public authorities (e.g. CFPB, state and federal regulators) on an as-needed basis. Remain up to date on regulatory changes and industry best practices and communicate such changes effectively to business stakeholders. Develop and conduct trainings and best practice primers on compliance topics (e.g. RESPA) and support the continuous improvement of standard form agreements, policies, and legal processes. Actively oversee and work collaboratively with outside counsel. What We're Looking For: Strong academic credentials including a JD and membership in good standing in at least one state bar (NY or CA bar a plus) 2+ years at top-tier law firm, in-house legal department, and/or government agency (emphasis in the technology / real estate/ consumer finance sectors preferred) advising on matters related to title, escrow, and mortgage origination services Familiarity with and experience applying multi-state and federal laws and regulatory frameworks (e.g. TILA, RESPA, ECOA, GLBA, HMDA, UDAAP, TCPA, CAN-SPAM, CCPA). Experience with or interest in the real estate and consumer finance industries Excellent analytical, consulting, drafting and negotiation skills with the ability to make well-reasoned legal and business judgments and clearly explain complex ideas A team player with low ego who can effectively work with other legal professionals A willingness to learn new areas of law, acquire new skills, and take on additional and/or new responsibilities within the team on an "as-needed" basis Confidence operating in a fast-paced environment Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, the ability to work independently, manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure in a dynamic, fluid environment Do your best work, be your authentic selfAt Compass, we believe that everyone deserves to find their place in the world - a place where they feel like they belong, where they can be their authentic selves, where they can thrive.
