Facebook is seeking an experienced Lead Counsel who is eager to solve some of today's most complex and important legal issues. More specifically, this role will focus on advising Facebook's User Experience Research and social good research teams and involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate will have experience advising on global data protection compliance issues, and managing complex privacy projects involving novel issues. A successful candidate will have good judgment, a strong work ethic, and a sense of curiosity to learn about new technologies and areas of the law. Lead Counsel, Privacy Responsibilities Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in areas of data use and protection laws (including state and federal consumer protection and privacy laws, GDPR and other global privacy laws) and advise on the impact of the same Work closely with research teams to provide privacy-forward project advice, design policies/processes and evaluate the impact of privacy laws, regulatory guidance and enforcement actions Drive high-profile and high-impact research projects involving privacy analysis and compliance with cross-functional stakeholders across Facebook's business, policy, legal, communications, security, and other departments Help to develop and conduct general and role-specific privacy trainings across Facebook Manage internal privacy compliance programs and processes to ensure we meet our obligations under those programs Minimum Qualifications J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) and membership in at least one US state bar 5+ years of legal experience, including at a law firm and/or prior in-house experience Experience advising on privacy legal risks and mitigations, with working knowledge of relevant privacy laws including CCPA and/or GLBA Business judgment and client counseling experience Preferred Qualifications Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media and Internet companies Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment An eagerness to take on novel legal issues in the research realm Exhibits self-awareness and effective organizational skills to manage a high volume of requests Locations Data Center About the Facebook company Facebook's mission is to give people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.
