In Abbott's Electrophysiology and Heart Failure (EPHF) division, we're advancing the treatment of heart and vascular disease through breakthrough medical technologies, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.As Senior R&D Engineer, you will be part of our Electrophysiology catheter product development team focused on delivering the future in diagnostic, imaging, and ablation therapy catheters. This role will involve a range of responsibilities including but not limited to design concept development and maturation, requirement development, testing and data analysis, and test method development and validation.Duties and Responsibilities:* Utilize multidisciplinary engineering knowledge and experience to design and develop new products specific for catheter-based technology.* Provides guidance for the design and development of company products.* Works closely with product development team to establish product development goals while ensuring market compatibility* Plan, schedule and coordinate project tasks and activities.* Effective communication skills with management and cross functional team members.* Utilize structured problem-solving approaches to resolve design investigations during development* Conceive and build working prototypes.* Run empirical and experimental analysis utilizing various analytical design tools.* Work with outside consultants, vendors, machinists and the medical community.* Support bench / animal testing and clinical evaluations.* Establish product requirements and specifications.* Establish test methods and conduct model development, as needed* Identify and mitigate project risks* Reviews and provides functional approval for project and quality system documentation.* Ensure compliance with procedural and documentation requirements of Abbott, FDA , ISO and other regulatory bodies.Experience and Education Requirements:* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering/related degree.* 5+ years of engineering experience, mainly in Research & Development engineering in medical device or other highly regulated industry* Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization* Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.* Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.* Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.* Ability to multitasks, prioritizes and meets deadlines in timely manner.* Strong organizational skills, as well as attention to detail.Preferred Qualifications / Education* Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering/related degree, or equivalent years of experience* Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes and designing for manufacturability.* Experience in designing and testing electrophysiological, mapping & catheter ablation, or related medical devices.* Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business units model* Experience in designing electro-mechanical devices.* Academic GPA: 3.0 plusWHAT WE OFFERAt Abbott, you can have a good job that can grow into a great career.
