The Maryland Department of Transportation's Maryland Transit Administration (MDOT) (MTA) is recruiting for Transportation Engineering Manager II. The Transportation Engineering Manager II functions as a senior level architect who is responsible for managing complex architectural projects. This position requires broad range of knowledge and expertise in many areas including renovations, new construction, code compliance, compliance with local/national laws including ADAAG, and construction administration. In addition, this position is also required to work in the area of transit design. MTA is unique in that it provides transit via bus, train, metro and light rai. In addition to being knowledgeable about relevant codes, candidate must also be up to date on new materials and construction methods. The primary responsibility is to ensure that the facilities operated by the Maryland Transit Administration are safe, functional and sustainable in order to provide uninterrupted services to our thousands of demanding customers. The Facilities Engineering and ADA Division is responsible for the design and inspection of MTA's transportation facilities. Projects include all phases of design: planning, programming, schematic design, construction documents, bidding and negotiation and construction administration. The incumbent is responsible for managing the planning and design of new and existing transportation facilities that include MARC, Metro, Light Rail, Bus, Commuter Bus and Mobility.

This position manages consultant architecture and engineering teams and functions with a high degree of independence of action and authority under the supervision from higher level engineering management personnel.

This position is located in Baltimore City, Md.

Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.

EXPERIENCE: Eight (8) years of experience in professional engineering, including one (1) year of supervisory or consultant management experience. *Five (5) years of the experience must have included managing complex architectural projects*

*This statement contains a Selective Qualification which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective Qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or bona-fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skills and abilities).

The ideal candidate will be a Licensed Architect with experience in sustainable design (or LEED). The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's or master's degree in architecture.
Experience in design and management of transportation/transit-oriented projects is a plus.

Notes:

1. Additional work experience in professional engineering, or in technical engineering at the journey level or above, may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

2. Possession of a master's degree in engineering may be substituted for one year of the non- supervisory experience.

3. Persons currently registered as Professional Engineer in the State of Maryland, or in a state with comparable requirements, are considered to have met the education requirements

Licenses & Certifications


1. Employees in this class may be required to possess a Professional Engineer, Land Surveyor, or Property Line Surveyor License.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
