Description

POSITION SUMMARY The Horizon Scanning Analyst I reviews information on novel healthcare innovations (e.g., treatments, vaccines and prophylaxis, prognostic indicators, systems and management innovations, devices, screening and diagnostics) to identify innovations that could have a high impact on important patient outcomes, public health, and the healthcare system. The Analyst I writes short summaries of each innovation and its potentials impacts and synthesizes reviewer ratings and comments to prepare reports on topics with high impact potential. The Analyst I is expected to maintain knowledge of new developments in assigned subject areas. The Analyst I participates in leads review, topic identification, database content creation, topic profile development, reviewer rating and comment analysis and synthesis, and report writing.

Essential Functions Statements(s)

  • Review information leads in assigned subject areas to identify topics (e.g., treatments, vaccines and prophylaxis, prognostic indicators, systems and management innovations, devices, and screening and diagnostics) with high impact potential on individual patient outcomes, public health, and/or the healthcare system in the United States
  • Write profiles summarizing key information for each topic selected during the nomination process in assigned clinical areas
  • Analyze and synthesize reviewer ratings and comments from physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, health systems professionals, researchers, patients, caregivers, and others to assess topics' potential for impact on patient outcomes and the healthcare system in the United States
  • Expand written profiles to include analysis of reviewer ratings and comments
  • Maintain thorough understanding of the key clinical research developments and major scientific trends in the assigned clinical areas
  • Apply understanding about U.S. regulatory processes, coverage, coding, payment, etc.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings
  • Meet assigned deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience:

  • One or more years' experience in a clinical or research healthcare environment
  • Broad knowledge of disease etiologies, processes, and treatments
  • Understanding of pharmacology and other treatment modalities (e.g., biologics, cell and gene therapies, devices, surgical procedures)
  • Basic knowledge of U.S. healthcare system, public and population health, evidence-based medicine, and healthcare horizon scanning
  • Working knowledge (preferred) of disease states and treatments for 2 or more of the following clinical areas: Alzheimer's disease and other dementias, cancer, cardiovascular diseases, infectious diseases, mental and behavioral health conditions, or rare diseases
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to distill highly technical information into content accessible to a wide audience
  • Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, healthcare information production-oriented environment
  • Must be a well-organized self-starter and proficient multitasker
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) essential
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint helpful

Education: Master's degree in a scientific or medical discipline, such as microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, physiology, biochemistry; or master's degree in public health, population health, or epidemiology; or clinical healthcare professional experience with advanced degree.

Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office 2007+
