Description

POSITION SUMMARY The Medical Copyeditor copyedits content produced by the horizon scanning team: topic and trend database records, high potential disruption reports, and topic profiles to help ensure comprehensibility, consistency of content tone across analyst authors, accuracy of language, and correct citations. The copyeditor also provides ongoing training to horizon scanning content and management teams to encourage continued improvement of each team member's writing skills.

Essential Functions Statements(s)

  • Work with horizon scanning director, associate directors, copyeditor(s), and/or knowledge manager to develop "plain language" writing workshops and guidance documents for content developers
  • Accurately copyedit content-including topic profiles, topic records, status reports, high potential disruption reports, and other written content as assigned-for horizon scanning systems operated by ECRI
  • Work with directors, managers, and authors to ensure accurate corrections/edits
  • Provide feedback to content developers on style and copyediting issues for their work
  • Manage personal copyediting workflow
  • Assist with record-keeping, correspondence, and administrative editorial tasks, as assigned
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings
  • Provide copyediting backup for Clinical Excellence and Patient Safety groups
  • Assist with internal and external stakeholder review process as time permits
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Experience:

  • 4 or more years' experience in medical copyediting
  • Consistent attention to detail; deadline oriented
  • Dedication to thoroughness and accuracy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with use of content management systems
  • Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, AMA, and Chicago style manuals
  • Demonstrated ability to meet aggressive deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, healthcare information production-oriented environment
  • Well-organized self-starter and proficient multitasker
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) essential
  • Certifications by Council of Biology Editors, Board of Editors in the Life Sciences, and/or American Medical Writers Association highly desired
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint helpful

Education: Master's degree (preferred) or bachelor's degree in English or related degree

Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office 2007+
