Job Description

The Senior Writer & Editorial Manager is part of the Truth Initiative Communications team. The team is expanding its content operation and seeks a creative, detail-oriented editorial contributor to develop strategic and compelling content about tobacco control and public health affairs for its digital channels. The ideal candidate will be able to develop fresh and interesting content concepts on a regular basis and on deadline. They must have a firm grasp of AP style and the ability to produce and edit material efficiently while ensuring factual accuracy and clarity of presentation.

The Senior Writer & Editorial Manager crafts articles, headlines, captions, data snapshots, one-pagers and other important content to ensure storytelling is optimized to travel on the social web. They will work closely with colleagues across program areas to ensure content aligns with Truth Initiative's rigorous approach to seeking, speaking and spreading the truth about tobacco in America. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across different platforms and channels and collaborating with designers, editors, and other creative contributors to deliver a steady drumbeat of storytelling related to tobacco control initiatives. The Senior Writer & Editorial Manager helps shape and execute the organization's content strategy and works under the direction of the Content Director.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Writes and edits pieces for Truth Initiative's digital channels, including website, email, and social media
  • Monitors news and relevant conversations and proactively surfaces new content and messaging opportunities
  • Supports the Content Director on the implementation of the overall editorial strategy
  • Contribute writing and editing to various communications materials, including the annual report and program collateral (one-pagers, brochures, FAQs)
  • Supports the VP of Communications and Chief Communications Officer in crafting key messages, news releases, and internal/CEO communications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A passion for news and storytelling and a proactive approach to pitching and executing articles
  • An ability to find the narrative in research and communicate it to audiences
  • Close attention to detail - an ability to write clean, clear copy on deadline
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years experience writing and/or editing in a digital newsroom environment
