Job Description

Fibertek is looking for a Laser engineer to join their R&D department in their Herndon, VA location to pave the way for tomorrow’s advancement in space exploration. Your Job

As a Laser Engineer, you will design and build multiple projects with diverse timelines in an R&D environment with some of the smartest minds in engineering. You will use your direct hands-on experience with diode-pumped solid-state lasers operating in the UV/VIS/IR wavelengths, willing to ask questions, and passion for seeing what they build get used for a novel application like space communications. Your manageable workload will include working with a team of mechanical and electrical engineers to build a unique packaged system that can withstand wide temperature operation or high vibrational loads. Your intray will include multiple concurrent projects with a mix of short-duration research programs and longer-duration technology maturation programs.


Required Skills and Experience

To succeed in this Laser Engineer role, you will need the below expertise and experience:
  • BS Physics, MS or Ph.D. preferred with a minimum of 3 years of direct hands-on laser experience, including design, building, characterizing laser systems.
  • Knowledge of the laser theory and industry best practices associated with diode-pumped solid-state laser systems, including continuous-wave lasers, Q-Switched lasers, single-frequency injection-locked lasers, electrical and thermal sub-systems.
  • Ability to design and execute experiments validating laser system performance and correlate the results with the expected performance.
