Manhattan Strategy Group (MSG), a management consulting firm based in Bethesda, MD, is seeking a Federal Project Director with experience in Meeting Planning and Logistics to support a large project for the U.S. Department of Education. Candidates will join a dynamic team of consultants working together to deliver best-in-class solutions to our current federal sector clients while expanding our portfolio of clients and projects. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skills and experience in leading meeting planning and logistics for large federal conferences and other meetings, preferably for the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services or other U.S. Department of Education Offices. In addition, they must have exceptionally good project management and coordination skills, strong written and oral communication skills, and a commitment to serving federal clients, grantees, and the programs and populations they support.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
  • Serve as a project and task leader, working with the client, project staff, federal program grantees, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to establish and enact a vision.
  • Manage and coordinate all aspects of conferences and meetings, including planning timelines, agenda development, meeting venue selection, room and equipment arrangements, participant and speaker management, conference website and materials, onsite registration and support, and reporting.
  • Prepare cost proposals, projected budgets and final budgets for meetings and proposals; review and approve expenditures; monitor conference/meeting expenditures within approved guidelines and budgets,
  • Work in partnership with the client, senior managers, and project staff while maintaining a positive and effective attitude.
  • Supervise staff; hire and train temporary registration staff as necessary; work with hotel/meeting venue staff and contractors to ensure delivery of contracted services,
  • Independently and proactively identify problems, areas for continuous improvement, and successfully resolve issues or put new processes in place to make those improvements.
  • May oversee the development of communications and technical assistance resources such as newsletters, briefs, , webinars, and resource guides.
  • Ensure a high quality of work through strong attention to detail.
  • Be comfortable in a fast-paced, customer service-oriented environment with a proven ability to multi-task and juggle multiple priorities.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree required; additional certifications or degrees preferred.
  • Minimum ten years of experience required; 15 years preferred.
  • 7+ years Government contracting experience, preferably with the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services (OSERS)
  • Must be knowledgeable about the projects and activities of the U.S. Department of Education
  • Must have substantive knowledge of federal procurement, especially relating to the Department of Education
  • Must be highly proficient in MS Office suite and willing to learn new technologies.
  • Experience in developing proposals for federal contracts preferred.

  • Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining a calm, collected, and helpful demeanor.
