Repairs, adjusts and maintains all types of machinery and mechanical equipment.
Maintains and repairs all types of delicate mechanical instruments and related equipment in accordance with prescribed standards.
Develops and builds a variety of special machines, attachments and miscellaneous mechanical equipment.
May make complex, original setups on a variety of machine tools to machine first run production parts.
Locates and corrects tool trouble, routing errors, etc.
General Requirements
Diagnoses trouble, dismantles, inspects, cleans, repairs, replaces and fits worn or damaged parts, reassembles and adjusts all types of machine tools, miscellaneous machinery, mechanical equipment, etc.
Improvises setups and operates a variety of machines, such as lathes, grinders, mills, drills, shapers, planers, hydraulic presses, saws, etc., and performs hand scraping and filing as required.
Performs any miscellaneous duties incidental to the repair and maintenance of mechanical equipment.
Uses precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers, squares, gage blocks, indicators, etc.
Installs, adjusts, calibrates, disassembles, cleans, repairs, reassembles and checks a variety of mechanical instruments.
Develops, builds, fabricates, fits and alters parts and rebuilds a variety of special machines, machine attachments, fixtures, miscellaneous machinery, mechanical equipment, etc.
Positions, installs, aligns, sets and adjusts a variety of locating fixtures, dies, jigs, tool holders, guides, cutting tools, stops, feeds, speeds, etc., in accordance with prescribed specifications.
Improvises set-up changes, recommends routing changes, etc., until parts are produced which meet production dimensional and quality requirements.
Makes, changes, adjusts, repairs and reworks tooling, sharpens cutting tools, etc. As required.
Works from blueprints, sketches, verbal and written instructions.
Handles parts manually or with the aid of material handling equipment.
Required Qualifications
Must have completed a formal apprenticeship OR have 8 years of equivalent training to qualify as a Journeyman.
Preferred Qualifications
Must have a thorough knowledge of machine construction, functions and methods of repair and adjustment.
Must have knowledge of shop math and be able to read, interpret and work from blueprints. Should be physically capable of performing heavy lifting, climbing, etc.
Working Conditions and Hazards
Good shop conditions.
May be required to work in cramped positions, high above floor level, in oils and greases, etc.
Must be able to qualify and pass the company truck driver physical examination.
