Description

The Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources at West Virginia Unviersity is seeking applications for an Engineering Scientist with a background in Chemical Engineering or Materials Science and Engineering as well as Polymers, Composites and Composites Manufacturing. This position is responsible for providing assistance in design development, materials characterization, manufacturing, testing and evaluation, field implementation, optimizing available resources, and providing solutions to the non-technical support like marketing and communication executives.

In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:

  • Actively participate in the design and development of a computer based model, providing adequate solution of the assigned task in accordance with the company's project budget and quality standard.
  • Perform research experiments and assist the lab attendant, executing laboratory works.
  • Supervise the project execution, collect field data, log operations, etc., and complete the assigned work as per schedule.
  • Analyze collected data from various resources, preparing technical reports, engineering proposals, and conducting presentations at industry workshops.
  • Analyze the test failures and devise practical approach towards its solution based on engineering principles.
  • Write complex technical specifications in the engineering report based on the project research and other engineering investigations.
  • Coordinate with clients and contractors for carrying out the technical work.
  • Communicate with assistant research scientists, providing working guidelines, relevant research materials, etc., for execution of project responsibilities.
  • Provide proper training and mentoring facilitation for junior research analysts and assist them in carrying out the project responsibilities.
  • Plan the working of research project, so as to carry out the project responsibilities with limited assistance.
  • Develop test plans for engineering R&D department as well as planning and scheduling their project accordingly.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, materials science, or other technical science discipline. Master's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience involving structional engineering, experimental skills, polymers, composites and composites manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of scientific software packages like MatLab, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, etc. is recommended.
  • Strong technical writing, documentation, and formal communication skills.
  • Ability to think creatively and logically and use innovative problem-solving skills.
