ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supervising work of students in class and clinic work;
  • Testing and evaluating achievement of students in technical knowledge and trade skills;
  • Working with clients and students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Require current Florida cosmetologist, and/or barbering licensure;
  • High school diploma or completion of GED;
  • Must have graduated from a regionally-accredited training institution;
  • Minimum one year's proven work experience in a commercial salon;
  • Proven knowledge of instructional strategies for promoting student learning and success in all subject areas of cosmetology and cosmetology-related programs;
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications;
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of hair styling, hair analysis, permanent waving, hair coloring, manicuring;
  • Facial make-up and massage, skin, hair, and scalp disorders;
  • Knowledge of salon management, including product and equipment knowledge; inventory control, safety, and cleanliness;
  • The instructor in this position should be able to use current instructional technology to organize, coordinate, and deliver a program of practical and technical instruction, involving demonstrations of skills required in the trade, and lectures on theory;
  • All instructors must meet the appropriate credentialing requirements for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instructing of cosmetology and/or barbering students in both theory and clinical settings;
  • Other duties as assigned or associated with a successful program and salon operation.
  • Ability to follow specific schedules, location, and/or tasks as assigned by the Department Chair.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires an ability to sit, stand for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, the use of various chemicals and solutions required for cosmetology and barbering procedures, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
