Job Description

The Battery Pack Design Lead Engineer for high voltage battery hardware and integration is responsible for the end to end management of the engineering design of one or more Battery pack projects. Projects include the low and/or high voltage vehicle Battery and hardware integration for BSG, PHEV, and BEV vehicles released for global markets. Designs will comply and be provided in support of the Global Vehicle Safety and Compliance teams in all regions throughout APAC, EMEA, LATAM, and USMCA (including Mexico and Canada). Ideal candidate has some experience in electrified propulsion system design with preference to high voltage battery pack experience.

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing program HVBS concepts that satisfy vehicle level functional objectives
  • Coordinating ePT HVBS packaging activities with advanced concept engineering team
  • Executing programs through PDP that meet or exceed objectives for performance, cost, weight, investment, and quality
  • Developing and publishing HVBS performance standards
  • Authoring and submitting source packages on time to support ePT product plans
  • Developing system level DVP and coordinating component level DVP with Tier 1 supplier
  • Executing design for manufacturing process and coordinating assembly process with manufacturing engineering
  • Developing and executing energy storage system DFMEA for HVBS hardware
  • Managing team of component engineers
  • Providing program deliverables on time per major development milestones
  • Leading Product Development Team meetings with Tier 1 suppliers
  • Coordinating HVBS change management (CCD, CN, IAA, PER)
  • Executing standardization plans and reuse of validated subcomponent

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or related engineering field from an ABET accredited/equivalent university
  • Minimum of 5 years in product engineering design, development and/or testing
  • Ability to review drawings and package studies in CAD
  • Lead development of technical specifications and engineering designs for packs & components, battery disconnect units including fuses and contactors, high voltage bus bars, liquid and refrigerant cooling/heating systems and resistive heaters, wiring and connectors, sealing including gaskets, o-rings, molded seals, and robotically applied seals, fasteners, corrosion and coatings, labels, battery and module assemblies, PCB including battery management systems, cell supervisory circuits, etc., heat transfer pads and materials, aluminum extrusion, roll forming, stamping, die casting, spot welding, laser welding, MIG, friction welding
  • Experience in tools and creation of 3D package and assembly drawings
  • Demonstrated experience source packages, specifications, DFMEA and DVP&R through the complete product cycle (from sourcing approval to serial production)
  • Experience in problem solving
  • Strong technical research and writing skills
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Self-starter
  • Google Suite experience
  • Strong presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent
  • Experience in the full product life cycle design and release experience using the FCA releasing system
  • Reactive and/or DFSS Black Belt
  • Experience with competitive benchmarking assessment preferably using A2MAC1
