Job Description

The Battery Mechanical Design Lead Engineer for high voltage battery hardware and integration is responsible for the end to end management of the engineering design of the battery pack assembly mechanical systems and related activities relative to product strength, sealing and durability requirements. This person will work closely with the battery pack technical specialists and design release engineers to ensure all requirements are met and properly validated, both via simulations and through empirical testing for BSG, PHEV, and BEV vehicles released for global markets. Designs will comply and be provided in support of the Global Vehicle Safety and Compliance teams in all regions throughout APAC, EMEA, LATAM, and USMCA (including Mexico and Canada).

Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing and leading the design of related components that satisfy vehicle level functional objectives
  • Coordinating ePT HVBS packaging activities with advanced concept engineering team
  • Executing programs through PDP that meet or exceed objectives for performance, cost, weight, investment, and quality
  • Developing and publish HVBS performance standards
  • Developing system level DVP and coordinating component level DVP with Tier-1 suppliers
  • Executing design for manufacturing process and coordinating assembly process with manufacturing engineering

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering or related engineering field from an ABET accredited/equivalent university
  • Minimum of 5 years in product engineering design, development and/or testing
  • Ability to calculate stress, strain, strength for all related mechanical components with a high voltage battery pack assembly
  • Lead development of technical specifications and engineering designs for the battery pack housing and related components contained within battery disconnect units including fuses and contactors, high voltage bus bars, cooling/heating plates, wiring and connectors, sealing including gaskets, o-rings, molded seals, and robotically applied seals, fastener systems including bolts, nuts, rivets, adhesives, crimping, mechanical and chemical lock patches, etc., corrosion and coatings, labels, battery and module assemblies, PCB including battery management systems, cell supervisory circuits, etc., aluminum extrusion, roll forming, stamping, die casting, spot welding, laser welding, MIG, friction welding
  • Demonstrated experience source packages, specifications, DFMEA and DVP&R through the complete product cycle (from sourcing approval to serial production)
  • Providing technical support for testing including fatigue analysis and failure analysis
  • Experience in problem solving
  • Strong technical research and writing skills
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Self-starter
  • Google Suite experience
  • Strong presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Business, as accredited by ABET or ABET equivalent
  • Experience in the full product life cycle design and release experience using the FCA releasing system
  • Reactive and/or DFSS Black Belt
  • Experience with competitive benchmarking assessment preferably using A2MAC1
