Job Title

Executive Editor - Meredith Travel Marketing

Job Description

I. Job Summary | Major goals and objectives.

Lead day-to-day management of custom client projects under the Meredith Travel Marketing umbrella. The Executive Editor will be responsible for ensuring that custom projects are executed on-time and on-budget, fulfill the client's content expectations and exhibit industry-leading quality. The Executive Editor will serve as manager for the edit staff within the division. The brand's custom projects are primarily in the Travel category.

This position will work with the editorial team on overall issue and story plans, helping the editors create innovative lineups that cover all of the clients' necessary inclusions while creating innovative content packages. Once content is created, the Executive Editor will read and review each piece at multiple stages during routing to ensure the copy is clear, concise and visually inspiring to readers.

The Executive Editor will help manage the customs' workload throughout the year by evenly distributing assignments among the available editors and monitoring each issue's schedule to help offset the seasonal nature of publishing travel guides. This includes developing best practices and maintaining master schedules and planning documents to optimize workflow.

While project editors will be the primary liaisons with each client, the Executive Editor will help editors respond to client feedback in a positive, timely manner and will have some client-facing responsibilities in settings such as issue kickoff meetings, issue makeup meetings and possibly industry conferences.

The Executive Editor will be expected to research and write original pieces for some of the publications as their skillset and work schedule allow.

In addition to overseeing printed custom pieces, the Executive Editor will advise on digital strategies for our custom clients by suggesting product extensions for web, social media, video and more.

This position is considered a key player in identifying new business and creative content opportunities for the MTM team to pursue. This position also takes a lead role in creating custom proposals for RFP responses and solicited business. An understanding of budgets and projections is necessary for this role.
