Job Description
 
 

As a data scientist, you'll be part of a new team within Direct Property Quoting that will focus on data innovation and modeling. It's a unique opportunity to shape our future capabilities by being the first data scientist to build predictive models that enable customized treatments in the quoting and insurance selection process. This team supports the data and analytics for a system that leads users through a question flow to gather necessary information to generate homeowner insurance quotes within our network of property insurance carriers. You'll design algorithms that will enable a personalized experience that will drive consumers to think of Progressive.

 

Must-have qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher with quantitative focus in Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field (e.g. Mathematics).
  • In lieu of the above, Bachelor's degree with quantitative focus in Econometrics, Statistics, Operations Research, Computer Science or related field (e.g. Mathematics) and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in Statistical/Quantitative Modeling and/or Machine Learning tools (R, Python, etc.) and in using various database tools (e.g. Hadoop, SQL) processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in Statistical/Quantitative Modeling and/or Machine Learning tools (R, Python, etc.) and in using various database tools processing large volumes of structured and unstructured data.

Preferred Skills

  • Strong background in building models and solving business problems
  • Desire to work closely with analysts and consultants
  • Proficiency in at least one higher level programming language such as Python or R and SQL
  • Experience with one or more advanced machine learning methodologies or demonstrated ability to learn new technical skills
