Weapons Effects/Solid Mechanics Scientist/Engineer to join a team of highly-skilled and motivated individuals with diverse technical skills needed to transition Counter Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD) technologies and programs that enhance our Nation's security. This position is located on Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico. This position requires and active TS/SCI Clearance, or TS Clearance with SCI eligibility.

Responsibilities
    Initiates, designs, develops, executes, and implements scientific research projects in the physical sciences
  • Develops theories for understanding, characterizing, and organizing natural phenomena into a systematic and meaningful pattern for research into potential new products or inventions
  • Responsible for conceiving, planning, and directing efficient and innovative phenomenological test programs directly enhancing programs for penetrating hardened targets or targets buried deep underground (penetration of current and conceptual weapons)
  • Plans and develops test plans that optimize the understanding of penetrability of current and conceptual weapons
  • Disciplines include but are not limited to mathematics (computational mathematics, analytical mathematics), materials science (concrete, metal), physics (physics, penetration, shock, and blast mechanics), and geology (soil, rock)
  • Participate as a technical advisor on Government test teams and provide possible alternatives and solutions, for planning and fielding of a test event, that best capture the science and test data required by the customer. As a member of the test team, this person will have access to all the information the Government test team members have and will be required to provide inputs to various solutions that may involve selecting from a variety of manufacturers or service providers.
  • May coordinate interdepartmental activities and research efforts
Qualifications
  • Required - Bachelor's Degree in Solid Mechanics or related technical field focused on weapons effects and penetration mechanics and four years' experience in Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) of weapons acquisition programs or technologies
  • Desired - PhD in Solid Mechanics or related technical field focused on weapons effects and penetration mechanics and four years' experience in Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) of weapons acquisition programs or technologies
  • Skilled in use of Microsoft Office tools
  • Skilled in the use of MATLAB (specifically code generation and verification) and mathematics, statistics, and optimization techniques
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interface with customers and collaborators
  • Active TS/SCI Clearance, or TS Clearance with SCI eligibility
  • Desired - Experience with penetrating weapon technologies
