Overview

Seeking a Systems Operator/Systems Engineer to support a high-availability, enterprise SATCOM program. The candidate must be technical and detail oriented, willing to learn the associated tools for tasking, planning, research and data routing, as well as tools for operations center support and system health / performance monitoring.

Responsibilities

We are looking for someone with experience with Visual Basic for Applications and enterprise messaging services or at least willing to learn these tools. Using VBA, create code to manipulate and display SATCOM beam data and to assist with processing large quantities of test data; as well as field customer questions regarding device aiming and/or movement in beam centers due to satellite's inclination and eccentricity, and field general orbital mechanics questions, primarily, regarding geosynchronous satellites. Using enterprise messaging services, conduct operational surveys and generate travel cables and system notification to AOR to include performing cable coordination (i.e., knowing who to include in the cable). This position is a great opportunity for a mid-level SATCOM Engineer to gain valuable experience while supporting critical operations for our customer. Selected candidate will be trained and mentored into a subject matter expert over the period of the next few years while in this position however, must be willing to learn.

Job Duties Include:

    Follow Standard operating procedures to provide support for the infrastructure and customers during live testing and operations.
  • Responsible to work as part of a team for monitoring network performance and data flow, keeping accurate logs, assisting customers with mission planning, data delivery and providing stakeholder notifications as appropriate.
  • Assist with system verification and regressing tests associated with agile software deployments.
  • Support occasional shift work (less than 20% time) and be on rotational pager duty, and assignment shared amongst the team of system operators.
  • The operations center normally provides support during extended business hours, but does have occasional shift work to support customer activities.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Clearance required TS/SCI w/Poly.
  • BS in engineering, computer systems, or relevant technical area.
  • Experience working with complex systems across multiple network domains.
  • Knowledge of enterprise system monitoring tools such as Nagios or Solar Winds.
  • Ability to communicate technical issues clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to execute assignments with little supervision and actively participate in a collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to work occasional surge support.
  • Ability to work shift hours as needed to support customers.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn and build system expertise over time.
  • Experience with Windows, Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Office Products to include Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with operational support center and / or SATCOM systems.
  • CONUS and OCONUS travel may be required ~ 15%.
  • IT experience in the intelligence community.
  • Experience with programming or scripting language as applied to the development and automation.
  • Linux operating environment and virtualization experience.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols (IP, TCP, UDP, etc.).
  • Commitment to support the program for 3 or more years.
