Position Summary, Job Requirements & Responsibilities

Iridium seeks an exceptional engineer to contribute to the research, development, testing, and sustaining engineering activities of the Iridium services and ground communications infrastructure. Education and/or demonstrated work experience in engineering practices, software/hardware testing, and leadership is necessary for success in this position. The ideal candidate will be responsible for verifying the reliability and robustness of Iridium products and communication services, have a vested interest in the long-term success of their work, and be highly self-reliant.

 

Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    Work collaboratively with software, hardware, and system development engineers
  • Integrate, maintain and operate gateway hardware, lab hardware and software systems
  • Implement and maintain communication products automated test system and software
  • Develop scripts and/or systems to automatically test and validate products, collect test artifacts, produce product test metrics and generate reports
  • Recreate and isolate reported software and/or hardware defects using test infrastructure and document non-compliances
  • Reduce cycle time by way of analyzing tests and applying new processes, procedures, or automation to increase efficiency
  • Research and implement hardware upgrades of ground infrastructure and test systems
  • Maintain configuration management of the test automation software and scripts
  • Identify and development processes, procedures, tools and/or scripts to maximize system uptime and operational efficiency
  • Decompose requirements into verifiable test objectives
  • Develop and maintain test plans and procedures
  • Develop, maintain and execute test scripts for feature, defect, and regression testing
  • Analyze test results; generate and present reports based on test execution and analysis
  • Conduct on-site customer acceptance tests
  • Document the developed systems and related network
  • Update and maintain technical product documentation
  • Collaborate with team members across various functional disciplines to ensure high product quality

Desirable Abilities and Skills:

  • Demonstrated systems integration experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of software development and production best practices
  • Solid understanding of Linux and/or Unix operating systems extremely beneficial
  • Exposure to laboratory test equipment (network analyzers, state machine driven traffic simulators, protocol analyzers, etc.)
  • Knowledgeable with software management tools (JIRA and/or Bamboo)
  • Exposure to Agile software development process
  • Knowledgeable with high-availability software and hardware systems
  • Knowledgeable about machine virtualization, specifically VMware Desktop and ESXi
  • Knowledgeable with databases such as Oracle, MySQL, and/or SQL Server
  • Strong communication skills
  • Results driven with strong sense of ownership
  • Ability to work well both independently and in team structures
  • Must have a drive for continuous innovation, adding value, reducing cycle time and cost
  • Must strive to develop professionally, continuously learn and share knowledge with others
  • Ability to apply critical thinking to a wide array of problems and develop solutions
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
Experience & Education Requirements / EEO
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical field experience
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with test execution and analysis, test automation, and/or software development
  • Experience developing software in C, C++, C#, Java, Python and/or other computer languages
  • Knowledgeable with network switches and routers; Cisco or other network certifications beneficial
  • Demonstrated systems and/or troubleshooting experience
  • Expertise with the Microsoft Windows and Office product suite
  • Willing and able to travel up to 15 days annually
  • Willing and able to be on-call to support operational issues
  • Written and spoken proficiency in English is required
  • U.S citizenship required
