Summary: 

Provides oversight of the summer undergraduate research program.  Promotes summer research opportunities both on and off-campus to Trinity students. Manages and promotes community engagement initiatives, such as service-learning, volunteer programs, community-based federal work-study, and alternative breaks.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Promotes summer research opportunities both on and off-campus to Trinity students. Coordinates application and fellowship selection process, stipend distributions, and housing awards. Organizes and contributes to educational enrichment programs for summer researchers. Assists in the execution of undergraduate research and internship exhibitions and symposia, including the annual Experiential Learning Summit and Summer Research Symposium.  

  • Advises the university sponsored student organization Trinity University Volunteer Action Community (TUVAC). 

  • Manages the Tiger Breaks (Alternative Break) service learning program, including student leadership development, budget management, and serving in an on-call capacity during fall, winter, and spring break trips. 

  • Manages all aspects of the community federal work study program, including community partner and student recruitment, coordinating interview day and job matching process, providing professional development opportunities for students, and conducting program assessment. 

  • Creates and maintains relationships with community agencies, partners, and individuals in San Antonio that contributes to experiential learning opportunities.

  • Assists faculty and staff members with integrating service learning and other experiential learning activities into courses, majors, the academic curriculum, and into the co-curriculum more broadly. 

  • Assists in preparing program budgets, annual reports, and managing and monitoring expenditures. 

  • Supervises Community Engagement Specialist.  Directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws.  Interviews, hires and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, counsels, and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.


Experience: 

Required: 3 years of experience in service, programming, business or non-profit leadership, or a closely related area.

Preferred:

  • 6 or more years of experience in the coordination of undergraduate research, community-based research, service learning, or internships in a private residential campus setting.

  • Experience in the design and implementation of assessment activities, including writing student learning outcomes.

 

Knowledge:

Required:

  • Ability to work independently and efficiently, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, outstanding organizational abilities, and strong writing and computer skills.

  • Working knowledge of risk management issues within an academic setting.

  • Use and knowledge of computer, Microsoft Word and Excel, word processing programs, and other standard office machines.

  • Ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students, alumni, administrators, and off-campus stakeholders, such as governmental agencies.

  • Developing and delivering presentations, and exhibiting excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and work independently as a leader and as part of a team and a strong commitment to cultural diversity.

 

Licenses/Certifications:

Required:

  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and have a good driving history.  May not have more than two moving violations in a three-year period.

  • After six months of hire, needs to be certified to be an authorized driver at Trinity; including van certification.

Preferred: National Society of Experiential Education, Experiential Educators Academy.


Education Requirements: 

Master's degree or equivalent.

Preferred: Ed.D. or Ph.D.
