Overview

Our long-term client relationship with Jacobs has led to a need for a Structural Aerospace Loads and Dynamics Engineer on the JSC Engineering, Technology, and Science (JETS) contract at Johnson Space Center (Houston, TX).

JETS provides products and technical services related to human operations in space through development and integration of a broad spectrum of engineering requirements. This includes human spacecraft flight and flight development products, human exploration mission planning for NASA, institution support services, and new technology development.

Barrios Technology is the prime contractor for the Human Space Flight Technical Integration (HSFTIC) contract, Consolidated Program Support Services (CPSS) Project Coordination (PC) and Research, Engineering, Mission Integration Services (REMIS) contracts along with subcontractor support to multiple prime contractors as listed below. Our primary locations are at NASA's Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX and the Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) in Huntsville, AL. Responsibilities

The Structural Aerospace Loads and Dynamics Engineer will:

  • Perform Component Mode Synthesis and Craig Bampton Model Reductions on component Finite Element Models at the interface boundary degrees of freedom.
  • Perform matrix manipulations with the Mass/Stiffness matrices from the reduced Finite Element Models.
  • Perform modal analysis on component FEA models in preparation for modal tests.
  • Identify critical modes for a component.
  • Review and process modal test data.
  • Perform all other assigned duties.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited engineering school.

- OR -

  • BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited engineering school and five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited engineering school and four (4) years of related engineering experience, or a Ph.D. in Mechanical or Aerospace engineering from an accredited engineering school and zero (0) years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with desktop software applications, MS Office is required.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Finite Element modeling experience.

Preferences:

  • Experience using NASTRAN with FEMAP as a pre/post processor.
  • Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, C/C++.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.

  • Work may involve sitting for extended periods.
  • May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lb.
  • Must have sufficient mobility to enter areas of test facilities where necessary.
  • Generally an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, fax, etc.)
  • Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical.
  • Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements when required.
  • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • This position may require some commuting and traveling to other installations as needed.
