Job Description
ANSI is in search of a junior level Program Administrator, who will function as an integral member of our legal department team, helping to address all legal requirements in a collegial and interesting environment.  The ideal candidate will be successful if they possess exemplary judgment skills, competence, intellectual curiosity, the ability to collaborate within and across functions, and a good sense of humor.  The legal department for the American National Standards Institute ("ANSI"), and its two affiliates, Workcred, Inc. ("Workcred") and the ANSI National Accreditation Board ("ANAB") is currently comprised of two lawyers and two non-lawyer program administrators.  Collectively, they make critical decisions that impact the ANSI corporate family.  ANSI are looking to add another junior administrator to help round out the team. 

Essential Requirements of Position
  • Working effectively with ANSI's General Counsel, Associate General Counsel and other members of the legal department on a broad range of legal and governance matters relating to ANSI and its affiliated companies.
  • Assisting with administrative functions for the legal team, including:
    • analyzing and organizing documents,
    • reviewing contracts and inputting relevant information into ANSI's "contracts database,"
    • processing subpoenas and preparing first drafts of responses,
    • preparing agendas/meeting reports and other like documents,
    • ensuring that legal files contained in ANSI's electronic files and databases are organized and readily accessible by the members of the legal department,
    • overseeing the processing of legal department bills, expense reports and time entries, and
    • working with other members of the legal team in connection with registering and protecting the copyrights and trademarks of ANSI and its affiliates.   
  • Working effectively with staff in other departments, such as membership, publication sales, international, governmental, etc., and with ANSI's members and volunteers to ensure that legal/compliance questions are properly routed and that all ANSI's committees, forums, groups and governance entities maintain up-to-date lists of current members.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Accepting additional special projects requiring research and analysis of matters of legal importance to ANSI and its Affiliates.
  • Some travel, as needed.
  • Willingness to be flexible in occasionally working after hours to help meet deadlines and manage unanticipated projects.

Education and Training
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably also with 1-2 years of work experience. Particular experience in trademarks, contracts and/or corporate governance are a plus, but not required.

Skills and experience
  • Extremely organized and disciplined.
  • Strong commitment to excellent and timely output.
  • Eagerness to cross-train, identify solutions and contribute to improvements.
  • Ease with interacting with all levels and types of inquirers: CEOs, public, ANSI Members, ANSI's and its affiliates' staff, ANSI officers, volunteers, etc.
  • Interest in reading and assessing complex documents.
  • Analytical ability.
  • Attention to detail and superior proofreading skills.
  • Clear writing skills and ability to draft emails, letters and (with training) legal/transactional documents including draft responses to subpoenas, cease and desist letters, resolutions, agreements, contracts and other like documents.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and database programs generally.  Ability to learn quickly company invoice-processing, time-entry and other like programs.
  • Interest in making a long-term commitment to learn all aspects of ANSI's legal work and needs.
