The Site Safety Officer is the L1 SSHO as key personnel, a Part-Time/As Needed employee who through education, experience and training has the technical knowledge and skills needed to anticipate, recognize, and evaluate hazardous conditions and recommend corrective action/s and ensure corrections is/made in a timely manner, and in compliance with OSHA, NFPA Standards, USACE, State and Local laws. The SSHO is responsible for implementing and evaluating VALIANT's safety and health program the Accident Prevention Plan (APP) to assure all associates and subcontractors are to work on an environment that is free from any recognized hazards.

  • Responsible for obtaining all documents of incident/injuries investigation and reporting to VALIANT's corporate office in a timely manner.
  • Provide the necessary safety topics training and orientation to all associates and subcontractors to comply with VALIANT's safety policy and procedures to include but not limited to Hazard Communication, Fall Protection, Personal Protection Equipment (PPE), Control of Hazardous Energy (LOTO), Quality Health Safety Environmental (QHSE) policies just to name a few.
  • Review and participate in a team effort with customer's safety programs of; Fire Protection, Infection Control (IC), Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM), Environment of Care (EOC), to be in compliance with, The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation standards/requirements.

  • OSHA 30-hour General Industry or Construction training certificate or training card, a minimum of 5 years as a Safety Health Officer in a facility of same size.
  • Must have 24 hours of documented formal classroom or online SOH-related training within the past five years. The 24 hours can be multiple classes combined. Hours spent as an instructor for SOH related training can also be considered, but each course can only be used once.
  • Five years of continuous safety experience in supervising or managing general industry, construction, and or operation/ maintenance projects, to include managing safety programs, policies/procedures, processes, or conducting hazard analyses and developing controls to mitigate the hazards using an activity hazard analysis (AHA).
  • Knowledge using Safety and Health Requirements (USACE EM385-1-1) safety manual is desirable.
  • Ability to work long hours, or after hours, on call for weekend work.
  • Have a current driver's license.
  • Have good report writing and computer skills to enter data on government forms, corporate summary reports, incident report writing or using spreadsheets in Excel, Word, Acrobat, etc.
