Department Overview
The corrosion engineering team provides subject matter guidance in corrosion control design, testing, and mitigation. This position would support gas transmission corrosion programs.
Position Summary
The Corrosion Engineer provides engineering support for departments maintaining and operating PG&E's natural gas and/or electric transmission and distribution systems. Engineering support can include, but is not limited to, overseeing the investigation and remediation of Alternating Current Interference, Direct Current Interference, Cathodic Protection, Atmospheric Corrosion, Casings, Internal Corrosion, Close Interval Surveys, Coupon Test Stations, or asset and integrity management related work (ECDA, ICDA, SCCDA, etc). The jobs review the construction of cathodic protection systems and other capital investments related to gas and/or electric transmission and distribution corrosion prevention and monitoring. It also creates and maintains company standards related to corrosion control for gas and/or electric transmission and distribution systems and solves technical problems related to pipeline and electric facility corrosion prevention. The jobs work closely with the field and engineers directly implementing asset and integrity management and provides subject matter expertise and consulting to the larger organization. They contribute toward the company stand that "Everyone and everything is always safe ".
Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory, please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need. There is preference for the incumbent to be based out of the Bay Area.
10% travel time for Bay Area based employee, approximately up to 15-20% travel time if near the extremities of the system (Bakersfield, Redding, Atascadero etc.).
This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.
PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of thejob posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will bebased on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience,market value, geographic location, and internal equity.Although we estimatethe successful candidate hiredinto this rolewill be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decisionwill be made on a case-by-casebasis related tothese factors.
A reasonable salary range is:
Bay Area Minimum:$122,000
Bay Area Maximum:$194,000
&/OR
California Minimum:$116,000
California Maximum: $184,000
This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.
Qualifications-
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelors Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
* 3 years of experience in a corrosion, science, or utility related field.
* Valid California driver's license on day one of employment
Desired Qualifications:
* Work experience related to natural gas transmission or distribution or electric tower corrosion prevention.
* Experience on all or part of the project life cycle with project management experience (from conceptual design to final commissioning and handover) and/or in the front line gas or electric operations
* Electric and/or gas cathodic protection system design and troubleshooting
* Electric and/or gas coatings selection and application experience
* Corrosion failure analysis experience
* Engineering in Training (EIT) or equivalent
* AMPP certified Basic Coatings Inspector (CIP Level 1)
* AMPP certified Cathodic Protection Technologist (CP-3) or higher
* AMPP Cathodic protection training (CP1 - CP4)
Responsibilities
* Utilizes engineering principles to help operations and maintenance departments comply with standards, procedures, G.O. 112 E requirements related to corrosion control of natural gas pipelines, and the Code of Federal Regulations, part 192 subpart I and/or subpart O Requirements for Corrosion Control.
* Cathodic protection system design, cathodic protection system troubleshooting and repair, corrosion failure analysis and Engineering studies.
* Provides consultation on one or more specialized areas related to corrosion control and cathodic protection and below and above grade coating selection and application, as well as provides consultation / guidance to the other Corrosion Engineers and the organization.
* Writing and revising PG&E standards related to corrosion control.
* Management of expense and capital projects
* Auditing of corrosion control records
* May contribute and help coordinate corrosion related work with the Integrity Management Implementation of ECDA, ICDA, SCCDA, and Asset Strategy teams to assure consistency of application and philosophy across the company.
* May be responsible for a portion of PG&E's service territory and oversees all corrosion related aspects. Collaborates and supports the maintenance organizations, corrosion investigations, and the installation of mitigation equipment.
