CTIO Department

The Office of the CTIO drives and leads the core technology of Vantage on a global basis. Within the CTIO group are our Technology and Systems Team, Cybersecurity and Innovation Engineering, along with this position, the VP of Sustainability.

Position Overview

Vantage is seeking a Vice President of Sustainability to play a pivotal role in advancing and pushing forward the existing global program and building upon it to embed it in the core of how we develop and operate. Vantage has made several public commitments towards reducing the environmental impacts of our facilities and continue to find ways expand upon those to truly encompass the broadest range of opportunities to positively impact the environment and communities in which we operate. The successful candidate will drive the improvement of global strategies that can be regionally adapted and implemented to support our commitments and company goals. It is crucial for the candidate to lead through influence, fostering matrixed cross-functional relationships while ensuring accountability for progress against sustainability commitments and requirements, both internally and externally.

Ability to effectively convey complex subjects into actionable initiatives along with effective roll-out and implementation through creation of training and educational content and collaborator engagement with teams throughout the organization is also a vital part of what success. Use of data to drive strategy is critical to ensure strategies fit within our business model and are sustainable from a long-term growth and profitability perspective. Partnering with the Innovation and Onsite Power teams to find the intersection of R&D opportunities that can reduce carbon emissions through alternate or new and emerging technologies will continue to position Vantage as a thought and industry leader.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead the development/enhancement and prioritization of short, mid, and long-term strategic sustainability goals

  • Advance Vantage's global sustainability initiatives by overlaying business intelligence with telemetry to aid the continuous improvement of strategic vision, measurement, implementation, and reporting.

  • Build and manage reporting frameworks to drive an action-based culture from development through operations and program level telemetry to cultivate visibility of progress towards year over year targets

  • Lead the yearly GHG reporting for both internal and external consumption

  • Support teams serving our customers to help them achieve their sustainability goals through a wide range of verticals including clear reporting, renewable energy, conservation and reduction of energy/water/waste

Duties

  • Lead a dedicated team of sustainability professionals in defining and translating strategy to tangible initiatives and programs supporting reduction of GHG, energy, water and waste

  • Build relationships with customers to support their sustainability initiatives and take advantage of opportunities for collective action on shared priorities

  • Develop processes, standards and tools to enable New Site Development, Engineering, Construction, and Operations teams to successfully execute critical initiatives in line with target parameters

  • Find ways to embed triple bottom line approach to company goals around sustainability, and all the areas within the business in which it intersects and overlaps

  • Provide clear reporting to various partners in the business for internal and external consumption

  • Work across multiple teams to Identify and evaluate efficiency and sustainability improvement opportunities

  • Partnering with Sales and Power Infrastructure teams to build renewable energy programs, both for Vantage and for our customers

  • Define and develop carbon removal program as well as strategies for renewable energy procurement and hedging strategies that overlay supply/demand dynamics as we get closer to 2030.

  • Collaborate with global engineering team to define sustainability performance- based requirements to ensure new facilities across Vantage's portfolio meet or exceed near-term and long-term targets

  • Be Vantage's evangelist for sustainability partnering with marketing and internal communications; expanding the presence and written resources across internal SharePoint sites, Vantage's external website and social media platforms.

  • Push forward strategies to reduce carbon footprint, energy and water usage and reduce waste through increased recycling, education and awareness

  • Define and roll out corporate policies on sustainability partnering with Operational Compliance team

  • Find opportunities to positively impact sustainability within Vantage's corporate offices

  • Support Public Policy in outreach initiatives to local municipalities, utilities and sustainability coalitions (i.e., the Data Center Coalition) to bring Vantage to the table as a partner and active participant in the marketplace

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or Arts in Environmental Studies, Sustainability, Engineering, or equivalent experience required, master's degree preferred

  • 7 years of experience leading corporate sustainability programs required, 10 years preferred at a global, high-growth organization

  • Data Center experience is strongly preferred, but not required

  • Experience with carbon accounting using GHG protocol, developing renewable energy projects, and building carbon reduction programs required

  • LEED accredited professional preferred

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

  • Ability to partner cross functionally to solve complex challenges

  • Travel required is expected to be 10 to 15%, but may increase over time as the business evolves

Additional Details

  • Salary Range: $180,000-220,000 Base + Bonus (this range is based on Colorado market data and may vary in other locations)

  • Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including your qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
