As the Council enters its second century, we are embarking on an ambitious digital transformation and are growing our Digital Content team to reach and engage more people in Chicago and beyond.
The Role
The Chicago Council on Global Affairs seeks a producer-editor to make great audio experiences for audiences across a range of global affairs products and podcasts.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating beautiful content with varied texture, tone, and a clear narrative arc, as well as a proven ability to pitch, plan and cut content ranging from in-depth discussions to human interest stories.
This is a collaborative, hands-on team looking for an enthusiastic producer-editor who is proactive about making audio that is both original and distinctive.
The Audio Producer-Editor position is a hybrid role and requires some in-person attendance at our Downtown Chicago location based on work activities and peak seasons. This position reports to the Digital Content Editor.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Pitching, planning, and producing content that is timely and focused.
Working quickly and collaboratively to meet deadlines, producing engaging, accurate, and error-free audio.
Expertise in scoring and sound design as an aspect of compelling storytelling technique.
Writing accurate, compelling scripts and briefing documents
Use data and analytics to help guide editorial and audience development.
Take a forward-thinking approach to testing new content and engagement ideas intended to build a diverse audience.
Participate collaboratively with the Content team’s diversity, equity, and inclusion strategies.
Work with marketing, design, and product teams to optimize reach, loyalty, and engagement.
Foster cross-team collaborations in support of the Council’s digital transformation objectives and goals.
Provide support at Council events approximately 3–4 times monthly (registration, ushering, etc.), requiring some evening and early morning hours
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree or higher
At least three years of experience making great audio that reaches a significant regional or national audience
Proficiency with audio editing and publishing software
Expertise in scoring and sound design as an aspect of compelling storytelling technique
Some familiarity with interpreting web analytics and common platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, Sprout Social, etc.) to adapt and improve audience engagement
Collaborative, with proactive and inclusive interpersonal and communication skills
Results-driven, prioritizing for best and timely results
Ability to work evening and early morning programs
