Lead Energy Engineer

MEP Associates, a Salas O'Brien Company, is seeking a Lead Energy Engineer to manage and develop our existing energy analysis team which is distributed throughout our various offices. We are looking for the Lead Energy Engineer to be based in our Eagan, MN office.  

MEP Associates is a nationally recognized Sustainable Engineering design firm with a heavy focus on low-carbon systems. This position will have three primary responsibilities:
  1. Manage the energy analysis team workload and provide support to project needs throughout the company
  2. Develop the technical capabilities of the energy analysis team, create/refine analysis tools and methods to support project deliverables, identify new instruments of service that can be leveraged to increase MEP’s internal efficiencies and professionalism
  3. Lead energy analysis for large and complex projects located throughout the US, ensuring that technical, schedule, and budget requirements are achieved in accordance with established company policies and procedures, client expectations and applicable professional standards. 

This position requires technical expertise in the evaluation of building & industrial process energy consumption and the subsequent identification, design and preparation of lifecycle cost analyses to distinguish opportunities for energy efficiency and energy conservation measures. These measures include central plant options such as geothermal, combined heat and power, thermal storage, and chiller/heat pump selection; building efficiency options such as HVAC strategies, building controls systems, lighting systems, and architectural systems; and on-site renewable options such as solar thermal, photovoltaic, biomass, and wind generation. The successful candidate will be expected to evaluate energy performance primarily via energy modeling tools, including DOE2, eQuest, EnergyPlus, Trane Trace 700, and spreadsheet analysis.  This role will directly participate in utility infrastructure planning and provide guidance to building design teams (engineering and architecture) on preferred strategies to meet project performance goals. 

Qualified candidates will meet with clients, project teams, code officials, contractors and others to address energy strategies and to develop effective working relationships.  The successful applicant for this position will support and enhance existing client relationships and develop new market opportunities as they arise.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science Mechanical or Architectural Engineering with 5 years of experience.
  • EIT registration
  • Expert proficiency with at least one building energy simulation tool such as IES-VE, EnergyPlus, or TRACE
  • Proficient performing custom analysis in MS Excel
  • Proficient with CAD/BIM software, as necessary to support performance modeling
  • Workigng knowledge of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Certification project work/requirements and experience with LEED energy modeling and submission process.
  • Possess knowledge of HVAC system designs.
  • Technical analysis and engineering report writing.L
  • Legally Authorized to Work in the US
